Journaling can be Beautiful with Mixed Media Tags
Journaling can be Beautiful
I am committed to encouraging journaling to document life both for yourself and for others who go on without you in the future. With these tags, you can have added artful pieces that tuck away in your journal for someone to not only look at and read, but can touch, feel, and admire the vintage pieces that were used to create the loveliness of them.
These tags were created with the thoughts of encouraging you to add photos or any other memorabilia you might which to save. Some of them have space on the back to write down an explanation of the picture or event you wish to savor in your journal.
How I made these Tags
I cut out the size of the tag I want to make from a file folder and then modge podge some dyed coffee papers to the front and back. I like to glue my tag to a larger piece of paper and then cut the tag out so that I can control the wrinkling and lining up better. On the side of the tag that I will add the laces my papers are snippet pieces collaged on because they will be covered up and it is only used to add color and texture behind the laces. That way I use up all of my coffee dyed pieces. I search through my stash of vintage snippets of lace and my dresser scarfs to find some really pretty elements I liked together.
I stitched the laces and other elements to the front of the tag. When stitching the vintage dresser scarf to the tag, I leave the scarf in its full size and then lay the tag down where I want the pretty element to be and then sew it in place. If you cut it out first, the scarf will draw up and wrinkle and do all kinds of weird things to where it won’t lay pretty on the tag. After sewing the tag down, I then cut out the tag from the scarf.
There could be several layers of this process done to create a beautifully collaged tag. I think on some of these I actually cut out the tag from whatever I was attaching to it as many as five times.
I did make a youtube video of these tags if the pictures don’t do you justice. You can see it here.
If you would like to see a process video done, I would try to put one together just leave me a message below.
Thank you for stopping by, and I hope I gave you some encouragement to make your very on tag, if not my will be for sale in my shop for you.
